Studio 19 Kaumatua Housing Project

Last week Geoff Penrose and Adam Wakeford from the Lifemark team visited the project onsite. They were impressed with the design and workmanship and in particular the subtle placement of a large picture window which framed the view while seated which also worked perfectly for a wheelchair user.
The house is a combination of on-site and off-site construction – falling under the typology of hybrid prefabrication. The plan was designed with the Lifemark Standards in mind and features level access entry, wider doorways and hallways, wet-room bathroom, conveniently positioned light switches, door handles and power points, and well placed window openings for air circulation.
The compact unit is proof that once again, with the right architectural view, spaciousness can be achieved not necessarily by having a large footprint, but through good design. Our congratulations go out to the collaboration between SGA and Unitec.
